Today’s B-P Summer Book Club selection is “The Secret Within,” by Theresa Martin Golding. It is recommended for students entering fifth and sixth grade. Carly Chambers has a big secret and, so far, it has been easy to keep. But when she spends the summer on the Jersey Coast, it becomes harder for Carly to keep her secret. Sneaking out of her house every night, the only thing she wants is a few hours to herself. Carly then realizes that a stranger has been watching her, and has also been asking questions. Carly is now caught between hiding from the stranger and dodging her controlling and abusive father. Carly soon learns that keeping a secret can sometimes be much more painful than revealing it.
